ALICE WILLIAMS
| Alice Williams has been painting
since she arrived in Lexington in 1960. She has studied at the local
institutions and also with Hope Laughlin (line drawing), Maxine Foster
(watercolors), and Ryan Russell (oils).
|
Living with a view of House Mountain and the Shenandoah
Valley, she has focused on landscapes, but occasionally produces figures
and abstracts. Oil, watercolor, and photography are the media that
she uses.
She has won prizes in oils and photography, but her favorite medium is ink with watercolor. These works are usually abstracts of nature and colors are splashed around ink structures. Not only has she shown regularly in the Rockbridge area shows, but
also in the Bath County Art Show, on the WVPT television auction, and the
Rockbridge Arts Guild displays in Richmond. Alice is a founding member
of the Rockbridge Arts Guild and has served in many capacities in that
organization, including the position of President of the Guild.
