New Law on Art Donations

Sen. Pat Leahy (D-VT) is sponsoring the Artist-Museum Partnership Act, which would allow artists to file tax deductions for the market value of works they donate to non-profits. Leahy told Robert Siegel on NPR 29 February, artists are currently able to deduct only the value of the materials used. The measure has passed the Senate more than once in the past several years, but it still hasn't become law.

 S. 372 [109th]: Artist-Museum Partnership Act  A bill to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide that a deduction equal to fair market value shall be allowed for charitable contributions of literacy, musical, artistic, or scholarly compositions created by the donor.

Artist Solly Blank will conduct a watercolor workshop from 9:30 to 4:30 on Saturday and Sunday April 12 and 13th at South River Highlands on Highland Farm Road, between Lexington and Buena Vista.  The cost of the workshop for members is $85 for the weekend.  The workshop will emphasize the development of a personal style.  Artists my work on projects of their own choosing from photographs or be inspired by the rustic beauty of their surroundings.  There will be demonstrations, discussions, individual and group critiques.

Solly Blank

I grew up in Heidelberg, Germany and moved to Lynchburg, Va. in 1977.

I always admired and loved Art, especially, watercolor.  I started taking classes and workshops with many different wonderful instructors, who had a great deal of influence on the way I paint.  The last two years I have been teaching watercolor classes at the Lynchburg Art Club and the Lynchburg Academy of Fine Arts.  This has been a very inspiring experience.

Besides landscapes, flowers, animals, etc. my favorite subject is people.

I just love to paint!
