Pauline Cox Patteson

Pauline, a native of Rockbridge County, holds a B.A. degree in studio painting from Mary Baldwin College, Staunton, VA. She continued with two additional years of study at East Tennessee State University while teaching printmaking at King College in Bristol, TN.  She later returned to a banking career from which she retired as a trust officer in 1991 to pursue her love of art.


Since 1993 she has studied at Beverley Street Studio School in Staunton, VA. and participated in its Italy program in 1994, 1995 and 1999.She


has also attended art workshops of various internationally known painters Charles C. Gruppe, Charles Movalli, Charles Sovek and Helmut Gransow (R.A.C.A.).


The artist says, "I am driven by an insatiable desire to paint every day.  I am told that I am an intuitive painter.  The moment dictates what I produce with my brush.  It may be impressionistic, expressionistic or more realistic.  I am a Fauve at heart but I am myself on the canvas, whoever that is.  I must paint; that, I do know!"


Pauline has hung several one-person Invitational Shows and shared many Invitational and Featured Artists' exhibits.  Her works have won top awards in open and juried local, regional and national exhibits.  Works are held in collections throughout Europe and the U.S.A.


Memberships include:  The Rockbridge Arts Guild, Central Shenandoah Arts, The Shenandoah Valley Art Center and Oil Painters of America.
