Having a lifelong interest in creative arts, Gladys became interested in watercolors when she inherited floral paintings done by her grandmother during the Civil War.


Mainly self-taught, she has studied with Pobai Heffelfinger, taken classes at the Art Farm with Dr. I-Hsuing Ju, thru Dabney S. Lancaster Community College with Robert Tharp, fine Arts adult education classes at Virginia Military Institute with Nell Byers concentrating on oils, and watercolor workshops with Betsy Dillard-Stroud, plus numerous other workshops.


In addition to oil and watercolor paintings she does original oil paintings on furniture and fire screens.


She is an original member of Artists in Cahoots co-op, and is an active member of the Rockbridge Fine arts Guild.


Her work has been exhibited at the Bath County Art Show, a private gallery in Richmond, The Blue Ridge Orchid Show, and many local shows and private collections in this country and overseas.


Gladys is a native Virginian, was married to

the late Ernie Cauley and is the mother of three children. Her greatest joy is expressing her love of nature through art.
